Buttermilk Sweet Cornbread

Contrary to cornbread recipes in the south, sugar adds sweetness to this recipe!
1/2 cup butter, melted
2/3 cup white sugar
2 eggs
1 cup buttermilk
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup cornmeal
1 cup all-purpose flour
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Grease an 8 inch square pan.
Put sugar in large bowl. Melt butter in pan on stove top or in bowl in microwave; stir into sugar. Quickly add eggs and beat until well blended; add buttermilk and stir.
Stir in cornmeal, flour, baking soda and salt until well blended but with few lumps remaining. Pour batter into the prepared pan.
Bake in the preheated oven for 30 - 35 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
