This recipe was perfect for dog bone cookies for humans for my granddog, Ghost's first birthday party!
Ingredients
2/3 cup butter, softened
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 egg
1 tablespoon milk
1 teaspoon vanilla

1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 cups all-purpose flour

POWDERED SUGAR FROSTING:
2 cups powdered sugar
1 tablespoon softened butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
milk
food coloring of your choice

colored sugar for decorating
Instructions
In a large mixing bowl, beat butter on medium to high speed for 30 seconds. Add sugar, egg, milk and vanilla; beat until well combined. Add baking powder, salt and flour, combining until mixed. The dough will be thick. If necessary, cover and chill dough 30 minutes or until easy to handle.

On a lightly floured surface, roll half the dough at a time until 1/8 inch thick using a ruler to ensure accuracy. Using desired cookie cutter, cut dough into desired shapes. Place one inch apart on an ungreased cookie sheet.

Bake in a 375 degree oven for 7-8 minutes or until edges are firm and bottoms are very lightly browned. Transfer to a wire rack and let cool.

For the frosting, measure 2 cups of powdered sugar, then sift out the lumps. Add butter, vanilla and slowly add milk plus food coloring of your choice. Stir until the mixture is of spreadable consistency. Top with colored sugar.
Tips
Dip your cookie cutter into flour before cutting and the cookie dough will not stick to the cutter. You can get the same results by dipping your cookie spatula in flour before picking up the cut out cookie dough to transfer to the cookie sheet.
