Chocolate Bavarian Torte

Two 9-inch round cake pans

1 package (18 oz.) chocolate cake mix

1 - 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
2/3 cup packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/8 teaspoon salt

2 cups whipping cream, whipped (1 pint)
2 tablespoons grated semisweet chocolate
Mix and bake cake according to package directions baking in two 9-inch round cake pans. Cool in pans for 15 minutes; remove from pans and cool completely on a wire rack.

In a mixing bowl, beat cream cheese, sugar, vanilla and salt until fluffy. Fold in whipped cream.

Split each cake into two horizontal layers; place one layer on a serving plate. Spread with a fourth of the cream mixture. Sprinkle with a fourth of the chocolate. Repeat layers.

Place in refrigerator for 2-3 hours prior to cutting. Yield: 12 servings
To cut each cake layer in half, place toothpicks at the halfway point around the edges of the cake layer. Using a long serrated knife, slice thru the cake round.
